GS1-Thailand are the only barcode company with 885 numbers. If you want to use 885 numbers then you must complete their membership forms, pay a joining fee and then every year pay an annual licence fee to GS1. This is expensive and takes time. Also note GS1 only license the numbers to you. You do not own the numbers. If you do not pay the annual fee you have no right to use the GS1 barcode any longer.<\/p>\n

Barcodes do not tell you which country a product is from. This is a misunderstanding. GS1 confirm this on their company prefix page on their website;\u00a0“Note that since GS1 member companies can manufacture products anywhere in the world, GS1 prefixes do not identify the country of origin for a given product.” GS1<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Many people mistakenly believe that the first few digits of the barcode numbers show the country of origin of the product. However the barcode number says NOTHING accurate about the country of origin of the product. The only thing that these first few digits show is which GS1 company the barcode is rented from.\u00a0 So in reality, products can have any barcode number on them. Please see the GS1 website regarding no link to origin of product<\/a>.<\/p>\n

If you want to show that your product is made in Thailand, then the best way to do this is to print \u201cMade in Thailand\u201d or similar on the product. This is an advertising claim and must be proved if challenged. (Some manufacturers also print \u201cMade in Thailand\u201d directly above the barcode to help customers).
